DAD SETS SIGHTS ON £1 MILLION FOR FAMILIES IN EAST YORKSHIRE TOWN

Dad-of-two Richard Hutchins is embarking on a series of challenges to raise the ‘magic million’ for his local town Withernsea.

Over the next ten years Richard will be undertaking as many physical challenges as he can fit into his busy schedule with a single aim; to raise £1 million pounds (or more) for the local town.
Challenges include walking the length of Hadrian’s Wall,
Wainwright walk and the scaling of Ben Nevis, and a bike ride from Lands End to John OGroats.

One challenge that locals can get involved in is a sponsored bike ride through 30 miles of East Yorkshire countryside that will see participants start in Withernsea and pass through Easington, Patrington, Roos and Halsham before making their way back to the coastline.

Richard explains “The ride is mainly for cyclists, but after a few enquiries from wheel chair users we’ve opened the event up to anybody on any form of wheels, just so long as they’re not motorised”

Places are still available for the ride which takes place on Saturday 25 November and entry forms can be picked up from various shops in the town or found on the events website www.withernseawheelers.co.uk.

Another of the future events will be a gruelling bicycle ride from Hull to Downing Street in London, with Richard’s seven and eleven year old daughters doing the last five miles with him. Richard’s eleven year old daughter, Crystal, suffers from asthma – so it’s a huge challenge for her.

All proceeds from these events will go directly to a different organisation each year in Withernsea improving facilities in the town for the children and the towns’ future. This year the towns Scout group will benefit.

This is going to be a yearly bike ride, the route will never change, all that will change is that we’ll make the event bigger and better each year” says Richard. “I just want to make Withernsea a better place for the families that live here”
